Notifications and emails

We tell you about the things that need you, in the app and by email, and keep everything else quiet.

The bell

The bell in the header shows a red badge when you have something new. Press it to see your notifications. Many have a button that takes you straight there, such as Review request, Open conversation or View your report. Press the cross on a notification to dismiss it, or Clear all.

• Something you voted for is planned, in progress, in beta or shipped

  Who gets it: Beta testers

• The team reviews an idea you suggested, or someone replies to your comment

  Who gets it: Beta testers

• A friend joins with your invite link, or you unlock a free coffee chat (Refer & earn)

  Who gets it: Talents and shepherds who invite friends

New messages also show as a red badge on the Messages icon in the header.

Emails we always send

These are about your account and your coffee chats, so they always go out:

• Confirming your email when you sign up, and password reset links.
• Your coffee chat requests: a confirmation to you and a request to the shepherd, each with a calendar file.
• The shepherd's answer: a calendar invite with the meeting details when they accept, or a note when they can't make it.
• A welcome email when you've set up your account.
• A note when we receive a report from you, and our replies.
• Invitations from an organisation, if one invites you.

Emails about coffee chat invitations

When a shepherd invites you for a coffee chat, we email you as well as showing it in the bell. The email has their photo, name and role, the topic and their message, and a Book a time button that opens booking with them. These emails are on until you turn them off: switch off Coffee chat invitations from shepherds in Settings → Notifications, in the Invitations card, or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of one and confirm. The invitations still show in the bell.

The weekly company digest

If you turn on alerts for companies you follow, we email you once a week, on Mondays, when there's news at them: a shepherd joining, a new role, or new pay, perks or interview information. It's off until you turn on your first alert. To stop it, press unsubscribe from this digest in the email or switch off Weekly company digest:

• Talents: Settings → Notifications, in the Companies you follow card.
• Shepherds: Settings → Notifications in your account menu.

Emails about new messages

We email you about a new message at most once every 30 minutes per conversation, and only if you haven't already read it in the app. You can switch these emails off:

• Talents: Settings → Notifications, in the Messages card.
• Shepherds: Settings → Messages in your account menu.
