Terms of Service

These terms apply when you use KoffeeChat at koffeechat.com or app.koffeechat.com. By creating an account or using KoffeeChat you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you use KoffeeChat for an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.

You must be at least 16 years old and able to agree to these terms. Give accurate information about yourself. Shepherds must describe their current and past roles truthfully.

Keep your sign-in details safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it. One person, one account, unless we agree otherwise; work accounts that an organisation invites you to are separate.

• Talents explore careers and companies, create growth plans and book coffee chats.
• Shepherds share their experience in coffee chats. Shepherds are not our employees or agents, and they volunteer their time.
• Organisations present their company and team and invite their people.

A coffee chat is an informal conversation. What a shepherd shares is their personal view, not professional, legal, financial or immigration advice. KoffeeChat does not guarantee a job, an interview, a referral or any other outcome.

• Be respectful, be on time, and cancel early if you can’t make it.
• Treat anything shared with you in confidence as confidential, including CVs and plans.
• Don’t use a chat to sell, recruit for unrelated schemes or collect people’s data.
• Only record a chat with KoffeeChat’s own recording, which asks you both first and shows you both when it is on. Don’t record a chat any other way, and don’t share a recording or summary without the other person’s agreement.

KoffeePoints are an in-app allowance for actions such as booking chats or opening company profiles. They have no cash value and can’t be sold or transferred. We may change how many points actions cost or how many you receive.

You can also earn KoffeePoints by sharing insights about a company, up to a monthly limit. Points you earn last until the end of the calendar month, like your allowance.

With Refer & earn you get KoffeePoints for each friend who creates an account with your invite link and confirms their email, up to a monthly limit, and an extra coffee chat for every few friends who join. Invites are for real people who want to use KoffeeChat: we may stop counting referrals that abuse this, such as accounts created only to earn rewards, and take back points earned from them.

Paid plans are monthly subscriptions, billed through Stripe or Paystack. They renew automatically until you cancel. When you cancel, you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for. Payments are not refundable except where the law requires it. Prices may change; we will tell you before a change affects your subscription.

You own what you post: your profile, CV, messages and reviews. You give us permission to host, store, display and process it as needed to run KoffeeChat. For example, we show your profile to others as described in our Privacy Policy, and include ratings in averages and Kofi summaries.

Ratings and reviews must be honest and based on your own experience. Don’t post:

• false, misleading or defamatory claims;
• harassment, hate or threats;
• confidential or insider information you are not allowed to share;
• someone else’s personal data;
• reviews posted on behalf of a company you represent.

We may reward you with KoffeePoints for sharing insights about a company you work at or interviewed with (its perks, pay or interviews), whatever you say. We never reward a particular answer. Insights must be your own, honest experience.

We may moderate, hide or remove content that breaks these terms. Company reviews appear after a short delay and are anonymous by default.

Growth plans, career ladders, Kofi summaries and call transcripts and summaries are generated with AI. They can be incomplete or wrong, for example mishearing a word or missing who agreed to what. Use your own judgement, check anything important with the other person, and don’t rely on them as professional advice.

If you add or upload information about other people, such as an org chart or invitations, you confirm you are allowed to share it with us for that purpose. You are also responsible for telling them about it where the law requires. Organisation admins are responsible for who they invite and for managing their team’s access.

Don’t:

• impersonate anyone or misrepresent your role or employer;
• scrape, copy or bulk-download data from KoffeeChat;
• send spam, or contact people for purposes unrelated to KoffeeChat;
• try to break, overload or probe our systems, or get around limits and access rules;
• use KoffeeChat to break the law or anyone’s rights.

Approved shepherds who complete the number of coffee chats in a calendar month that we publish in the Help centre (currently 3, with months counted in Lagos time) get our Pro plan free until the end of the next month, and keep it for each month they do so again. Only chats booked with you on KoffeeChat that genuinely took place count, and we may withdraw Pro on us where chats are logged that didn’t happen. Pro on us never replaces a plan you pay for, has no cash value and can’t be transferred. We may change or end the offer, and will tell you in the app before a change affects Pro you already have.

KoffeeChat’s software, design, brand and the content we create belong to us or our licensors. You may use them only to use KoffeeChat as intended. Company names and logos belong to their owners and appear for identification only.

We work hard to keep KoffeeChat accurate and available, but we provide it “as is”. We don’t promise it will always be available or error-free. Company information may be incomplete or out of date, and we don’t endorse what users say in chats or reviews.

To the extent the law allows, KoffeeChat is not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

You can stop using KoffeeChat and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why.

We may update these terms as KoffeeChat changes. We will revise the date at the top, and tell you about significant changes in the app or by email. If you keep using KoffeeChat after a change, you accept the updated terms.
