Protecting your time
For shepherdsUpdated 1 Oct 2026
Set a rhythm you can keep: a weekly cap, one session length, chats batched together and breaks when you need them.
The best shepherds are the ones who keep going. A rhythm you can keep for months helps more talents than a busy fortnight followed by silence.
Settings that help
Set a weekly cap: quality over quantity
Weekly cap, under Booking rules on Profile → Availability, is the most chats you'll take in a week (2 unless you change it). Once you've confirmed that many, the week shows no more slots, even with Auto-accept requests on.
Pick one session length and stick to it
Choose 20, 30 or 45 minutes under How long are your chats? at the top of the Availability tab. A fixed length keeps chats focused and makes your week predictable.
Batch your chats on the same day
Set Weekly hours on one or two days rather than across the whole week (the copy icon gives other days the same hours), and add a Buffer between chats so you have a moment to reset.
Pause bookings when you're away
Choose Pause availability in your account menu before a holiday or a busy patch, or set a Back on date under Pause bookings. Chats you've already accepted stay booked. Taking a break
Block out a single day
A busy Tuesday doesn't need a whole break. Under Date-specific hours, press + Hours, pick the date and press Mark unavailable. The rest of your week stays open. Setting your availability
Say no kindly
You don't have to accept every request. If a request isn't a good fit, press Decline and we'll let the talent know so they can book someone else. If you'd like to add a personal word first, press Message. A short template helps:
A template you can adapt
"Thanks for reaching out. I don't think I'm the best person for this one, but a shepherd who works in [area] would be. Good luck, and do book me again if it's about [what you know]."
