How coffee chat ratings work

For talents and shepherdsUpdated 29 Sep 2026

After a chat, talents and shepherds rate each other with stars, a few chips and an optional comment.

Ratings go both ways. After a coffee chat, the talent rates the shepherd and the shepherd rates the talent. It takes less than a minute, and it helps everyone: talents find the right shepherds, and both sides learn how they come across.

When you can rate

  • Once a confirmed chat's time is over. Before then, the button says Rate after the chat.
  • Talents rate from Your coffee chats on Coffee Chats, under Past. Shepherds rate from Chats → Past, and rate peers they booked from Your coffee chats on Network.
  • We remind you with a notification: How was your chat with followed by their name.
  • Declined, withdrawn and missed chats can't be rated.

Rate a chat

  1. Step 1: Press Rate followed by their name (for example Rate Ada).
  2. Step 2: Choose 1 to 5 stars: 1 is Poor, 2 is Fair, 3 is Good, 4 is Great and 5 is Excellent.
  3. Step 3: Pick up to 5 chips for what they did well, and up to 5 for what they could do better.
  4. Step 4: Under Add a comment, write anything else they should know (optional, up to 500 characters).
  5. Step 5: Press Submit.

The chips

  • A shepherd

Did well: Insightful advice, Great listener, Actionable next steps, Honest & candid, Encouraging, Industry insight, On time and Shared resources

Could do better: More specific advice, Pacing, Listening, Clear next steps, Real examples, Punctuality, Call setup and Resources

  • A talent

Did well: Came prepared, Clear goals, Great questions, Curious & engaged, Good listener, On time, Professional and Open to feedback

Could do better: Preparation, Clarity of goals, Research, Conciseness, Sharper questions, Punctuality, Confidence and CV polish

Where ratings show

  • On a shepherd's card and profile: their average and how many ratings it's based on, or New until enough people have rated them.
  • In Coffee chat ratings on a profile: the average, the chips people pick most (Known for and Room to grow) and a summary written by our AI, Kofi.
  • On your own profile, the same card shows What you do well, Where you can grow and what others are saying about you.

Nobody ever sees who wrote which rating. Ratings are shared only in groups from at least 3 different people. Why ratings stay anonymous
